Teatro Playback Galicia

Playback Theater is a unique form of improvised theater that acts out stories from the audience. It is a social theater that generates empathy, connects people, and promotes human and community development. It has applications in psychotherapy, social work, education, and human organizations.

Founded in 1975 by Jonathan Fox and Jo Salas in the US, Playback Theater has expanded to more than 70 countries and is supported by international organizations such as the Center for Playback Theater and the International Playback Theater Network.

In this short documentary, we gather testimonials from practitioners of Playback Theater. In it, they tell us what this discipline consists of, its benefits, and what they enjoy most about practicing it. They also talk about what they would say to someone who is thinking about getting started. At the end, we present the Playback Theater Galicia project.

It teaches us to understand different points of view and connects us emotionally with other people.

It helps us overcome stage fright, discover our strengths, and believe in them.

Playback groups foster strong relationships based on respect and affection.

It helps us stay in healthy contact with our emotions, listen to them, and self-regulate.

It develops our emotional, verbal, and gestural communication toolkit.

It allows you to develop subtle and profound listening skills that enable mutual understanding.

We are at the service of the community, which fills us with a sense of purpose and responsibility.

It is a dynamic activity that promotes physical health and helps overcome a sedentary lifestyle.

“Teatro Playback Galicia was created to introduce Playback Theater to Galicia, raise public awareness of it, train anyone interested in practicing it, and offer it to society as a tool of applied theater.”
